9.3 Reflection Blog: Course Reflections

 Course Reflections

Communication skills are some of the most challenging things to come by for most people. Whether you're an introvert or just an awkward extrovert, talking, writing, and just plain being around other people can be a pretty complicated journey for most folks. That's one thing I would change about conducting business within my organization.  I would never assume a person understand without explaining in explicit detail.  If you’re communicating clearly and often, listening actively, and asking relevant questions, a seed is planted for others to behave in a similar style.

Although communication skill isn't a wrong tool to learn and use in your everyday life. It 'taking time to build the tools that help communicate with others because it makes a  difference between making life better and making life difficult. I was quick to voice my opinion without allowing the person to finish their statement.  Listening" is waiting for your turn to speak and something I seriously have to work on and write myself a mental note to talk after others have expressed.  It will be essential to listen to feedback because it’s important on many levels. Not only does it help to determine how well the employees have met their goals, but it also shows how well they collaborate with their teams, their co-workers, and their managers (Clampitt, 2016).

However, this is a cliche proven by many people worldwide, and something everyone can learn to do better.  I would change the way I communicate with my peers and cultural background.  There's a very high chance problems are caused by miscommunication and can be prevented with communication skills (Briody et al., 2012).  When I look back over my personal life, I have lost many friends to communicate a lack thereof.

Communicating well is essential for everyone in the workplace. As a manager in the workforce, so managerial skill is vital to reflect on.  I must communicate regularly with the staff,  keeping them up to date with what's happening. Frequent communication instills the team with confidence in an open channel of communication that works both ways.  I have to make sure I advocate for the organization moving forward.  Active listening is a learned skill for most of us.

  1. Tracey,

Interesting course reflections well applied to current workplace communication challenges. Provided specific examples to explain communication at its best.

Demonstrated evidence of link to module week discussion and readings; very well written; though check to list the references utilized.

    Keep it Up!

    Thank you.
