1.4 Reflection Blog: The Meaning of Words

 

WORDS HAVE MEANING

 


When using the word,  Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather disrespectful manner, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less. There’s a lot of words that mean what you want them to mean.  Bells and whistles are a popular saying in the automobile industry.  Which means it’s the top of the line vehicle.  Communication is about messages that include thoughts and provide information with language or behavior.  Communication is powerful and often exchanged by people within an organization and everyday life.  Communication is the universal language with the  Greek organization, which we call the divine nine at black universities.  


An example of this statement is a sorority group by the name of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority use the words Skee Wee to communicate with each other.  Other Greek organizations have their own words among each other for communication.  There are many examples to help describe jargon in the workplace.  I have people say he’s' my work boyfriend, but I never understood that until I started to pay attention.  It didn't mean it was her boyfriend, but they work together and go to lunch together.  Please drop me a line involves in the workplace, send that person an email or text.  John Kenig from TED speaks about Beautiful new words to describe deep emotions and how words are made up, and we are stuck in our lexicon that doesn't correlate. However, words aren't real and have no meaning, but when you use them is when it matters.  I used the term conversation rules the nation and communication do the same.  Words matter!  😞I'm sure you know the saying stick and stone may break my bones but words will never hurt you.  Words do hurt and that's why it's important to communicate and explain the jargon that is used in your conversations.

    Impressive reflection on the meaning of words at workplace. Thoughtful elaboration on words and jargon unique to your workplace.

    However, check to show evidence of link to module week discussion and readings on the importance of words via application of APA style format for in-text citation and listing reference.
